We are very pleased to report that in our latest Care Inspectorate (SCSWIS) Inspection we continued to be awarded an excellent (grade 6) for Quality of Care, and grade 5 for accommodation.  This builds on steady progress where we have now averaged over grade 5 in our last 17 inspections in our two services.

The reunion of former pupils was a very successful event, with 25 former pupils visiting on 28th October.  In total over 40 adults made contact to discuss visiting.  We are now discussing other ways we can develop these renewed links.  There is now a direct link to the three most recent reports from our website.

  • The current economic situation has created new issues - we are eager to work with authorities to find solutions to the pressures that we all face.  The Director is actively involved in national debate and planning regarding commissioning.
  • Our next vacancy will be around Easter 2012.  Referral enquiries are welcome at anytime, including day pupils.  We are also opening a third house so that young people can make more progress to independence with confidence.  More details to follow.
  • Sarah Butters, Head of Care, presented at the annual Educating Through Care Scotland conference on work by the group looking at an outcomes framework.  Phil Barton, Director has been invited onto the Partnership Forum for CELCIS representing Educating Through Care Scotland.  Phil also gave expert advice at the Education and Culture Committee at Holyrood on how to improve the outcomes for young people from residential care and education.
  • Another group of 3 staff have embarked on SVQIV - so our group with this award will reach double figures.
  • The first informal meeting of former pupils takes place at the end of January 2012.  Looking forward to sharing news with you.
