Clinical Psychology

Clinical psychology support is provided to Starley Hall on a sessional basis. We have a specialist child and adolescent mental health practitioner who undertakes assessments and contributes to multidisciplinary planning.

The psychologist helps the team to understand young people’s intellectual and emotional needs and tailor behaviour management or specific interventions to those needs.

Many young people find it hard to access talking therapies and the psychologist has a significant role in supporting staff. However individual young people may need or request therapeutic support. In this case, the clinical psychologist will liaise with external child and adolescent mental health services to ensure that all expressed needs are met appropriately.

The focus of the clinical psychology service within Starley Hall is on:

  • Expert assessment and diagnostic clarity
  • Understanding learning and behaviour from a developmental perspective
  • Providing guidance to the educational and care teams regarding children who are experiencing psychological stress
  • Developing behavioural and emotional support strategies
