The school day at Starley Hall follows a model that young people might experience in a mainstream setting where, depending on their individual age and stage, will be based for most of the day with one of our two Primary trained teachers, or will follow a secondary model going between specialist teachers and tutors.
This is the main focus for the morning sessions from Monday to Friday, where young people will follow ‘core’ subjects. This includes S1-S3 pupils who are still within the Broad General Education stage of their school career, where most of their learning will be delivered by one of the Primary teachers, and those who are following National Qualifications within both SQA and other awarding bodies.
Our afternoon sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays have a key focus on “Skills for Learning, Life and Work”. This includes work placement, ASDAN, Princes Trust Awards, employability skills, and the development of key life skills. Our afternoons are also used for full school thematic projects and interdisciplinary learning, where every young person has an important and key role.
On Wednesay and Friday afternoons, all young people follow PE. We use a wide range of off-site activities and resources such as Fordell Firs and Lochore Meadows, as well as our on-site Sports Pitch.
