Talking Mats is a visual framework for supporting communication and thinking. It is an evidence based approach with has been used effectively with people of all ages and abilities allowing them to share their views on topics that are important to them.
Starley Hall staff are trained to use Talking Mats and employ them regularly to help young people express their views, review their progress and be more involved in developing their own care plans. Talking Mats are used for reflection before review meetings. The completed mats are printed out for the young person to support them at their meeting or to allow their voice to be heard even if they choose not to attend.
Staff and young people at Starley Hall have worked with the Talking Mats team in Stirling to produce resources for use in the care setting. Talking Mats have also been used in the Starley Hall School to set shared literacy goals.
