The health and well being of a young person is a priority. We have excellent access to local services and resources.
Some young people have had difficult experiences with medical services, or have had unmet needs. Adults at Starley will support a young person to overcome the impact of these experiences and access the resources that they need.
We have direct access to a Child and Family Psychiatrist who can provide an evaluation of needs. We are aware that this is a service that is not always available across Scotland. Comprehensive assessments can therefore be undertaken.

Keeping fit and healthy
- We will whenever possible keep links with a young persons’ doctor and dentist.
- Starley Hall has a no smoking policy stating that smoking is not allowed on any site. We will support young people (and adults) to deal with their smoking habits.
- One of our staff is a senior practitioner in mental health. She provides valuable guidance and advice to adults and young people.
- We will be pleased to discuss any aspect of the care or welfare of your child. We have experience of trying to deal with unsolved problems from the past.
- A group of adults are trained in first aid. There are always adults who are able to manage a young persons’ medication. This whole programme is under the supervision of a qualified mental health practitioner.
- Young people will be encouraged to make good choices in relation to their health and well being. As part of their integrated plans they are encouraged to eat well and participate in a range of physical activities.
- Young people regularly engage in planned individual work that focuses on their health needs. This can be in relation to emotional health as well as physical.
