We believe that direct involvement with parents and other significant adults is vital to ensure positive plans can be developed and lasting change achieved.   Parents and carers are an integral part of the placement. Frequent and regular contact is maintained between significant adults at Starley. Family work can be offered to support parents to strengthen their relationships with their son/daughter and work through difficult times.

When a placement is being considered parents often feel they have lost their voice to schools and community authorities or even to their child.  Parents also experience difficulties and often see little hope for the future. Frequently there has been a breakdown in family relationships. We will always be 'Reaching Out' to keep working together.

  • We value contact with parents and significant adults. Visits can be arranged at any time and supported by staff.
  • We recognise the importance of family members visiting the school and keeping in contact.
  • In reviews and at planning meetings we will involve parents and key members of families. We focus on establishing targets which helps parents provide consistent encouragement and support their children.
  • We can work directly with families in order to look at boundaries and expectations, and encourage stronger relationships for the future.
  • Work with other professionals is another key feature of the programme. The overall aim is to work in partnership with all involved individuals.
  • Agencies that make a contribution can include; Psychological Services, Social Work Departments, Children’s’ Panel and Health Services.  All workers are part of the team ‘Working Together’
